Tour Details

Bus departs from New London H.S. on Monday, April 10 and returns Saturday, April 15, 2017.


Howard University, Morgan State University, Hampton University, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and Elizabeth City State University. The trip will also include a tour of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture in Washington, D.C.

Interview Schedule

All Workshops conducted at NL Science & Technology Magnet High School.

Thursday, January 26 - Financial Aid Workshop conducted at NL Science & Technology Magnet High School. No fees. Open to general public. Start time 6:00 pm - 8:30 pm

Saturday, March 4 - Local College Fair conducted at NL Science & Technology Magnet High School. Admissions counselors from such schools as Eastern Connecticut State University, Johnson & Wales University, Mitchell College, Three Rivers Community College, and University of New Haven discuss admissions requirements and more. Start time 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. No fees. Open to general public.

Saturday, March 25 - Pre-Tour Student Orientation conducted at NL Science & Technology Magnet High School. Start time 9:00 am - 1:00 pm. Held only for students attending the tour.

Thursday, April 6 - Pre-Tour Parent Orientation conducted at NL Science & Technology Magnet High School. Start time 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm.

April 10- 15, 2017 - HBCU Tour, Meet the bus at NLHS 8:00 am - depart 9:00 am Sharp!

July TBD, 2016 - HBCA Reunion, Bates Woods Park, New London, CT


How to Apply

Cost $295 per student (cost include hotel, transportation, student information package, and tee shirt). Cost applies to New London County residents. Non-resident fee is $365.

Students must submit an application, two letters of recommendation, and their grade transcript along with a minimum deposit of $100. Deposit is non-refundable. Recommendation letter must be written by a school official. Mail application package and payment to: HBCA, College Tour Committee, PO Box 1385, New London, CT 06320. The application & payment can be mailed separately from the transcript and letters. Deposit is required to reserve your spot. Full payment can be made at any time. Deposit will be accepted past the due date as long as space is available.

Once the student's application package is submitted in its entirety an interview will be setup with the tour committee. At least one parent must accompany the student at the interview.

Students will be required to attend all workshops and orientations. Unexcused absence may result in a rejection from the tour.

Repeat students and students not living in New London County will be placed on a waiting list until the 2nd week of February. We will start clearing the waiting list giving priority to students who have submitted all required documents and payments. Students who were not selected from the waiting list will receive a full refund.

No refunds will be granted if cancellation is made after the cancellation deadline indicated on the application.

  • $100 payment due 1/27/2017
  • $95 final payment due 2/24/2017
